Hi, Personally, it is MUCH preferred to have the name more closely match the hardware configuration, ESPECIALLY for SCSI devices, IMO! If I want the disk to be shuffled, then I prefer having to move a jumper or switch setting! (Until you have to support lots of different physical system configurations, you may not fully appreciate the assist this approach gives). Don't forget, for each SCSI host adaptor, you can have 8 controllers, each of which can have 8 LUNs. Therefore a single host adapter can support 64 drives (done right, which most ain't, but that's a different issue). You really don't want the other disks to be renumbered. > > Thats one of the things I'd like to see the most, one-to-one mapping > of the scsi IDs to devices. > > ID 0 sda > ID 1 sdb > ID 2 sdc > . . > . . > . . > > > Johnie > > -- > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- > Johnie Stafford | Internet E-mail: jms@pobox.com > KB5YVF - Lafayette, LA | Ham Radio Packet: kb5yvf@k5arh.#lftla.la.us.noam > | WWW URL: http://www.pobox.com/~jms > pobox.com for lifetime email -- mail info@pobox.com > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- >
