I had problems up to 1.3.99 something. After that, the problems
disappeared. The symptoms: while unbatching incoming news (uucp) or
someone reading news via nntp, the machine crashed and I had to fsck the
filesystem by hand, it did not recover automatically.

Now everything seems to be ok.
