No, WOM existed before the MicroDive. At least one chipmaker had one on the books for a while -- supposedly a prank by some designer to show that noone ever read the papers that went through the approvals chain. Legend has it the chipmaker discovered it when a customer asked for pricing.
LER and SED's, though, are physical devices (although not necessarily for very long.)
