For example, I have 8 copies of this message I'm responding to, in two
different 'flavors' ie two different sizes, with slightly differing heading
information.

4 of the messages are 2345 bytes long, 4 are 2543 bytes long. The headers
are different, but the contents of the message are identical.

All 8 bear identical message-ID's.

I know little about this, but is it possible the list is sending several
people's messages to one person's address?

If anyone wants the full header information, (ie for debugging) I can send
it too.
