I got similar results with 1.3.72 (plus repeated Socket destroy delayed messages). It looks unhealthy to me.
Go back to the original v1.03 driver and apply the patches for 1.3.73. I haven't gotten any error messages so far with it (compiling several kernels and libc over NFS).
On a side note, the latest binutils (2.6.0.10 as of this writing) looks like an improvement too.
