    SubjectNew /proc/meminfo: What is cached?
    Date
In newer kernels /proc/meminfo contains new number cached:

    (ttyp2)marianna:~> cat /proc/meminfo
total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
    Mem: 15380480 14794752 585728 8298496 217088 5324800
    Swap: 33509376 4829184 28680192
    MemTotal: 15020 kB
    MemFree: 572 kB
    MemShared: 8104 kB
    Buffers: 212 kB
    Cached: 5200 kB
    SwapTotal: 32724 kB
    SwapFree: 28008 kB

What is it? Do I understand correctly that

    MemShared - Cached = <user processes shared memory>?

    Thank you for your answer.

    Oleg.
