SubjectRe: syslogd and 2.1.14

Keith Owens was overheard whispering ...
# > any suggestions???
# syslogd prior to 1.3.1 gets segv on a NULL pointer after gethostbyname if
# the hostname cannot be resolved. Sounds like your nameserver is not
# resolving the hostname.

More likely than not syslog is being launched far before the ethernet
devices (or even named) come up.

A valid /etc/hosts file should fix this, it did mine.
