Yes, sysvinit 2.66,67 and 68 were a bit unstable. I've just made a 2.69 which should solve all problems. You should be able to find it on most Debian mirrors in a couple of days (in debian/source/unstable/base) or in ftp://ftp.cistron.nl/pub/people/miquels/debian/ if you need it now.
