I also got this when I ran a precompiled lyx binary. (from InfoMagic Sept 1996)
System: i486/ AMD 133MHZ, 16Mb RH4.0 with __MANY__ patches and fxes :-(( Linux 2.0.27 with as much as possible modules :-)
