Anyone have any opinions when we should stop talking about >256fds, and
32bit device numbers and bite the bullet and add them ?

I'm too busy until sometime after the USENIX conference.....

but while we're at it, we should increase the size of sigmask_t (so we
can increase the number of signals). All of these have varying levels
of compatibility problems.
