I think one reason it's not in the mainstream 2.0.x kernel is that Theodore Ts'o has what may be a better one. One of these in the official 2.0.x kernel (I'd like to keep my servers off the bleeding edge for a while) would be quite nice.
Keep your eyes open for 2.1.16 ;-)
