This is a shell function, not a kernel one.

The shell is supposed to call setrlimit() with the appropriate parameters.
However, the first error you're reporting is obviously internal to the
shell, considering that it doesn't recognize the -h parameter.

The second may or may not be, but I don't believe it is. I don't know what
your shell (you don't specify what shell you're using) returns in the
event that its call to setrlimit() yields an error condition.

Try asking on one of the newsgroups. Or use a Bourne shell such as bash
or zsh.
