Subjectshm.c

I've been looking at shm.c because we have an app that's EXTREMELY
hungry for shared memory segments (~500), more than we can currently get
out of the extant IPC code. Is anyone out there working on extending
the shm.c code so it can handle this? If not, what do I do to make the
fix and bring it back into the kernel sources myself? Naively enough,
I think it doesn't look that painful a modification. TIA...
