Could the kernel write all its hardware detection messages in a form that's
suitable for passing back as a command line the next boot?

This could be done either via specially formatted kernel messages, or
via a /proc interface (/proc/autoprobe, or whatever).

Also, there should be a way of disabling autoprobing for all or
certain devices.
