PPP doesnt use DMA memory , so PPP isnt going to be subject to that. The PPP problems would have to have been something totally different.

That is what happens when you don't report immediately a problem. Memory fails you when you do it. But I am pretty sure to have had this problem with other modules besides floppy (Mitsumi cdrom I think, perhaps also with the psaux driver).
