I saw this quite often mid-way through the 1.3.x (x = [ 50 -> 80, or about there ] ) especially if I tried to start/stop PPP when X was running. It was happening on serial TTYs tho (ttyS1 generally) so that might be unrelated. I haven't seen it since then, though.
