Thought it might have been my home-brew patches to the sound drivers for 2.1.5, or maybe an out of date C compiler and/or libraries, but I'm still getting the subject error message with the following hardware/software:
Pentium 133 kernel 2.1.5 source + ossfree37-beta4-linux (sound drivers) GCC 2.7.2.1 libc 5.4.7
The exact error message is:
patmgr.c: In function 'pmgr_read': patmgr.c:119: fixed or forbidden register was spilled. This may be due to a compiler bug or to impossible asm statements or clauses.
