Box is a garden variety i4790 desktop box running opensuse-42.3, VM is
a full clone (in 64GB fs) thereof with identical topology, hanging off
the host like a leech (NFS mounts a few spots), and sucking up half of
the host's ram.

The attached config may not be exactly what was used during the
bisection, timestamp says it's from the initial (failed) bisection.
