Er, what? Are you saying that a mailcap file inside a .gz or .bz2 or a git repository is *more* public than a mailing list? or the already existing gitweb history of the main tree?
I've noticed correlated (lagged) spikes in my spam volume to the email address I use for this list whenever I post from it, so please consider that you are perhaps being penny-wise and pound-foolish here.
