Please forgive my posting “newness”.  If there’s anything I’m missing,
please let me know.

I’ve got a brand new machine that I’m having a terrible time trying to keep
up and running with any “newer” kernels.   I have about 8 of these servers
that don’t have an issue, but they’re running older kernels and or don’t
have the load of this machine.

As of right now, I’m running Centos 5.2 x86-64 on a Tyan 5397 MB with (2)
Quad Core Intel CPUs, 32GB of ram (16 2GB sticks, ECC FBDIMMS), and a large
24 drive raid on an Adaptec AACRAID card.   Right now, I’ve got the board
back on bios v1.03.  I’ve tried 1.04 and 1.04beta.   Since my other systems
don’t have this issue, I thought it was a bad MB.  It was not.  Problems
persist on both new boards.    X86-64 gets me much longer “uptimes” than
32bit RHEL 5.2.   The e1000e’s enabled causes the box to crash much, much
sooner.  I have a feeling their reserved memory is getting stomped on,
causing the grief.   Memory tests clean, and there are no ECC events listed
in bios.  Bios 1.04beta did show correct memory sizing in dmidecode, as its
fix on Tyan’s website says DMI Table update.

By bypassing the onboard nics (e1000e) and using some older pci-x Intel
e1000 cards, I can get the box to stay up for around 11 hours.   Sometimes
5, and sometimes 14 hours.  If I use the onboard e1000e nics, I’ll get a
tx_unit_hang error within hours.   The server is doing about 300-400 mbits
of webserving.   Server loads are around 0.4-1.0.

I hope this is as simple as me doing something glaringly wrong in the kernel
config, and missing something vital.   Btw, I get the same crashes in
2.6.27.6 and 2.6.27.9 as well.   One of the other servers like this one,
doesn’t have any issues with 2.6.27.6, RHEL 5.2 32bit.
