i am not aware of any *good* open source ego-shooter a la UT/Q3 nor do i have the skills to write one :-(

why do you think that? could you possibly image that some users just have to deal with the hardware they get? i was *given* (read: it was a 2nd hand gift) a nvidia card. so i took the card, knowing that i have to deal with nvidia's linux-drivers for myself.
