You mean sonypi didn't work for you ?

I guess it depends on the model, but I use my laptop daily too,
with the brightness close to maximum, and it still works after
3 years of use... (but the brightness is not very powerful on this
model - a PCG-C1VE, maybe this explains the longer life... or I am 
just being lucky).
