Hello there,
I've been trying to use a firewire external hard drive under kernel 2.6, but I'm not having much success. I'm using a firewire pcmcia card by Belkin which seems to be working properly. The drive worked with this firewire card under kernel 2.4.twenty_something.
I compiled 2.6.7 using the configuration from suse's 2.6.5-7.95-default kernel but still have no success. All of the correct modules are loading.
From the kernel messages (below), it seems that sbp2 is failing. I was looking around on the list and found some others are also having problems with sbp2. I'm trying to find out if this is a known general problem under 2.6 or if it's specific to the drive that I'm using (Buslink 80GB usb2 / firewire combo).
I'm using SuSE 9.1 and found on the mailing list there that some claim to have success with firewire drives. I don't know??
One other thing. I noticed that it takes maybe 20 or 40 seconds sbp2 module to load. Once it loads the errors are reported but I can see the attached scsi device under /proc/scsi/scsi:
--- Attached devices: Host: scsi4 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: SAMSUNG Model: SP0802N Rev: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 06 ---
Below are the kernel messages.
Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
