My machine is halting again.
I have a new Promise TX4 SATA card, and when running badblocks on the drives (read or write doesn't matter), the machine suddenly comes to a complete stop and must be reset. I've tried both 2.6.3 and 2.6.3-mm1. It dies on different blocks each time.
Specs: Abit KV7 motherboard, with via-rhine nic AMD Duron 800 MHz S3 vga card on the PCI bus RedHat 8
How do I debug this? I've run memtest86 for several hours without problem. The cpu fan is working. I got similar hangs with a Silicon Image SATA card two months ago in the same machine. The FSB is running on 100 MHz, which is the lowest possible setting.
