I have no idea what I did the second time other than un-module a 
couple of drivers, but its working again here, as near as I can tell, 
everything but printing from kmail.  That gives kmail 1.6.0 a SIGABRT 
tummy ache.

I'll attach my config.gz so those who want to compare, can.
