    linux/types.h has:
    #ifdef __KERNEL__
    typedef __kernel_uid32_t uid_t;
    #else
    typedef __kernel_uid_t uid_t;
    #endif /* __KERNEL__ */

    And __kernel_uid_t is an "unsigned short"
