Hello!
[1.] One line summary of the problem:
kernel: ata1: DMA timeout, stat 0x1
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
I've just purchased a VIA KT600 based mainboard and a Seagate Barracuda 120G SATA drive. The controller and the drive is properly recognized, but after a while, independent of the workload, I get the above error, and the drive bails out. (It's unaccessible from the point I get the message).
I've also tried the backport in 2.4.22-ac4, it's a bit more verbose, and complains about a 'scsi Media Sense error' before the dma timeout.
[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):
VIA, SATA
[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):
Linux version 2.6.0-test9 (root@mcree) (gcc version 3.3.2 20030908 (Debian prerelease)) #6 Tue Nov 4 13:11:19 CET 2003
[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)
N/A
[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the problem (if possible)
Normal usage. (Sometimes I can cp tens of gigabytes, sometimes I can't even change to a directory)
[7.] Environment [7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here)
