Umm, we already have tons of forks, e.g. Alan's Tree(s), Andrea's Tree,
SuSE's Tree(s), RedHat's Tree(s) Carrier Grade Linux.

And unlike the emacs/xemacs debacle they're compatible and actually code
flows in both directions.
