There was at least one irq problem fixed in 2.4.0-test6-pre5 or so: the IDE harddisk auto-probe was doing bad things, and left irq's in a half-way state. The next auto-prober (which normally is the yenta driver in a setup like this) would be the one that got blamed for messing things up.
