Heres my lilo.conf. I symlink the kernel map and bzImage from another drive to /boot on my root partition.

boot = /dev/hda vga = normal read-only linear append = "hdc=ide-scsi" prompt timeout = 30 default = test
image = /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage label = 2.4.0-test5 root = /dev/hda3
image = /boot/vmlinuz label = linux root = /dev/hda3 initrd = /boot/initrd
image = /boot/vmlinuz.suse label = suse root = /dev/hda3 initrd = /boot/initrd.suse
