SubjectRe: Cylinder limits jumper for drives over 32GB
Hello everyone.

Just in case this might help as an interim-solution:

I use the Maxtor 94098U8 (40GB, 5400 rpm) since end of January. I have no
problems using it under Linux 2.2.13 (SuSE 6.3), although I use an older
motherboard with Award BIOS and no fix available. I just checked the higher
cylinders again with "mke2fs -c /dev/hdb11".

--------------------
And my setup is (sorry, it's Oscar night...:-):

No jumper, no JUMPER.EXE (or somesuch)
Disable the drive in the BIOS (keeps it from hanging)
Install EZ-Drive (MaxBlast) (actually, don't know if this has any effect other
than helping to boot Windows...)
Use lilo with an "append" parameter of "hdb=4982,255,63"
--------------------

This gives me:

santana:~# hdparm -i /dev/hdb

/dev/hdb:
