What kernel? What ide kernel patch? What are the kernel boot messages for this disk? What does hdparm -i say?
[HPT366 defaults to CHS, and CHS cannot be larger than 8 GB, so in itself this is not surprising. On the other hand, my 34 GB disk works just fine on HPT366 on an unpatched 2.3.47.]
