Rerun 'make menuconfig' and check your configuration.
Make sure ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL support is emabled.
Under IDE, ATA and ATAPI block devices, make sure "Include IDE/ATA-2 DISK support" is enabled. (And probably CDROM...). Check everything else under this menu is correct as well.
