    It's not just a .42 issue though. I'm using 2.3.41 and to my untutored
    eye it doesn't appear to shrink.

    [root@wr5z /root]# cat /proc/meminfo
    total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
    Mem: 63610880 52514816 11096064 0 499712 19607552
    Swap: 73990144 2658304 71331840

    and /proc/slabinfo shows:
    inode_cache 46489 57576
