The setup I describe below worked without problems with 2.2.12. Since upgrading to 2.2.14, packets are sent across a plip interface, make it through without error as reported by ifconfig, and even show up in tcpdump on the remote end, but are mysteriously dropped by the kernel somewhere thereafter and are not responded to. All other interfaces work fine. Kernel has firewalling built in at compile time, but no ipchain rules are in effect at either end. 'echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/*/rp_filter' doesn't help either, not that it really should in this case.
