I'm getting this too - along with MASSIVE FILESYSTEM CORRUPTION!
I'm using an Asus K7M (VIA82C686A IDE chipset) with Athlon 650 MHz CPU.

I've seen problems with the following kernels:

RedHat 6.1 stock 2.2.12-20 (which I'm using to generate the
configuration output below)
2.2.14
2.2.14 + Jens Axboe's DVD/CD+IDE patch
2.2.15pre9
2.2.15pre9 + Jens Axboe's DVD/CD+IDE patch

Everything seems to work just fine until I do a hdparm -c 1 -d 1 -X 66
-S 180 /dev/hda /dev/hdb, then all hell breaks loose. It seems to be
triggered by massive disk I/O - it'll run OK for a while, but if I
restore from a backup, copy many files between the two drives, or
install something from CD, the filesystem seems to be instantly and
irretrievably corrupted.

Also, I don't know if this is related, but I'm still seeing in the
latest kernels a problem I reported a few months ago wherein doing a
directory listing of a CD-ROM returns inconsistent results (once mounted
the results are consistent, but each time the drive is mounted I see a
different set of missing files).

Any help with either of these would be greatly appreciated! My drive
config is listed below. Please let me know if there's any other needed
information.
