Subjectkernel BUG at file.c 80

Hi,

I have a realiable way to provoke this message in the 2.3 kernel series. It
seems to come from the following lines in linux/fs/fat/file.c:

if (!create)
return 0;
if (iblock<<9 != MSDOS_I(inode)->mmu_private) {
BUG();
return -EIO;
}

This seems to be triggered in my case: It happens, when I try to
save under StarOffice 5.1a a file to any one of my vfat (/dev/hda or
/dev/hdc) partitions. The exact message goes as follows:

This will never happen with any of the 2.2 kernels or before. But it can
happen sometimes with other applications too (gimp, perl come to mind)
while writing to a vfat partition. Fat, vfat, msdos are compiled as
modules.

Kernel was compiled with:
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linux/egcs-2.91.66/specs
gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)

2.3.46 is not the first one, but I don´t know the exact starting point, for
most of the 2.3. series I couldn´t use for different reasons. It was
already in 2.3. pre 30, but there where lots of other (known) problems at
that time.

Bye

Peter B
