Are you sure it's locked, or is it sitting at the kdb prompt and you can't see it. For example, my 686 box used agpgart, and that (seemingly) interferes with the console. Just type 'btp xxx' and 'go' blindly to see if that's the case. If so, you'll find the data in your log.
