Look at Gérard Roudier's <groudier@club-internet.fr> ftp site ftp://ftp.tux.org/pub/tux/roudier/ to find updated sym53c8xx drivers. The sym53c8xx-1.7.1 which supports the 53c1010 just fine was added to 2.2.18pre3, so any later 2.2.18pre shoud do the job for you.
