No offense intended, but the 2.0.32 kernel is about 50 years old. Any bugs on non-recent kernel (2.2.11/2.0.37) are going to get you the same answer:
Upgrade your kernel to 2.2.11, and see if the problem goes away.
Nobody is going to debug a 500 year old kernel... ;o)
