SubjectPROBLEM: 2.2.5 NFS is incompatible with 2.0.36 NFS (and OSF/1 3.2C)
Date
From

1] 2.2.5 nfs server reports 'read only file system' when it isnt.

2] 2.2.5 nfs server reports read only file system to linux 2.0.36 clients, and
to OSF/1 3.2C clients for file systems which are not mounted or exported or
nfs mounted read only. This is plain REDHAT 6.0 server and plain REDHAT 5.2
client.
This is with nfs V2 mounts (redhat 6.0 does not seem to support nfs V3 mounts)

3] NFS read-only

4] Server is:

Linux version 2.2.5-15 (root@porky.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66
19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)) #1 Mon Apr 19 22:21:09 EDT 1999

Client is:

Linux version 2.0.36 (root@porky.redhat.com) (gcc version 2.7.2.3) #1 Tue Oct
13 22:17:11 EDT 1998

6]

$ really mount -t nfs -o nfsvers=2 mouls:/export/mouls_tmp0 /mnt
$ touch /mnt/foo
touch: /mnt/foo: Read-only file system
$ really umount /mnt

This also happens when the file system is mounted with autofs on the client.

The exports file on the server is:

/export/mouls_tmp0 *(rw) *.dcs.gla.ac.uk(rw)

The following tcpdump shows what happens during the above script:

tcpdump: listening on eth0
