hi, since a few day we've got the following: -------------------------- [lfarkas@firewall:/home/lfarkas]ping www.intel.com PING www.intel.com (192.102.198.160) from 194.152.134.8 : 56 data bytes 64 bytes from 192.102.198.160: icmp_seq=0 ttl=40 time=1253.3 ms wrong data byte #8 should be 0x54 but was 0x53 53 70 8b 37 29 b7 b 0 8 9 a b c d e f 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 1a 1 b 1c 1d 1e 1f 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 2a 2b 2c 2d 2e 2f 64 bytes from 192.102.198.160: icmp_seq=1 ttl=40 time=1764.6 ms wrong data byte #8 should be 0x55 but was 0x54 54 70 8b 37 f6 98 b 0 8 9 a b c d e f 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 1a 1 b 1c 1d 1e 1f 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 2a 2b 2c 2d 2e 2f --- www.intel.com ping statistics --- 4 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 50% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max = 1253.3/1508.9/1764.6 ms -------------------------------------- the problem allways at 8th byte, the difference is allways 1 and it's increase by 1 in the packages. it's an SMC EPIC/100 ethernet card. it's a hardware problem or can be some software problem ? we've replaced the card with a ne2k_pci and a 3com 3c509 but both generate the same error. it's a RH 6.0 with all update on a pentium mmx, with kernel 2.2.5-22. ipforwarding, masquarading, ipchains are used on it. if we ping a nearish host we don't got the above error, although on the same hub another linux server (almost the same) never produce the error. thanks. -- Levente
