PF_PACKET is its own protocol family so you don't need to have IPv4 compiled in to use it. And aesthetics are also important, of course :-) There is no difference between SOCK_DGRAM and SOCK_RAW in PF_PACKET. There is documentation for it as part of netman which should be released shortly.
