Well, don't stress this to much. This "improvement" was probably will
not lead to any improvements for platforms != MIPS. There are other,
more promising optimizations coming. But even without them the
mechanisms are pretty fast, faster than most other implementations.
At least if one uses glibc 2.1.1.
