You have to upgrade some packages in order for Redhat 5.2 to work properly
with kernel 2.2.x.
I suggest you first upgrade to RH 5.2, and then use the update RPMs for
RH5.2 at
ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/updates/5.2/kernel2-2/i386:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 96607 Feb 10 18:23 dhcpcd-1.3.16-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 49836 Feb 16 15:20
initscripts-3.78-2.3.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 50147 Feb 19 13:19
initscripts-3.78-2.4.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 102750 Feb 10 18:23
ipchains-1.3.8-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 254041 Feb 10 18:24
modutils-2.1.121-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 50215 Mar 30 14:29 mount-2.9-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 186575 Feb 10 18:24
net-tools-1.50-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21383 Feb 10 18:24 procinfo-15-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2342430 Mar 30 14:29 samba-2.0.3-0.i386.rpm
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 326580 Feb 10 18:24
util-linux-2.9-0.i386.rpm

Possibly you can also just upgrade your 5.1 with these files, but I have
not tried that.
I can tell you that the dhcpcd is a *LOT* faster to get the IP address with
this package than with the one of RH5.2!

Ward.
