Folks, When compiling the newly released linux-2_2_5 kernel on Red Hat Linux 5.2 with "make bzImage" on my ThinkPad 770ED, I get the following error:
nm vmlinux | grep -v '\(compiled\)\|\(\.o$\)\|\( [aU] \)\|\(\.\.ng$\)\|\(LASH[RL]DI\)' | sort > System.map make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2_2_5/arch/i386/boot' as86 -0 -a -o bbootsect.o bbootsect.s make[1]: as86: Command not found make[1]: *** [bbootsect.o] Error 127 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2_2_5/arch/i386/boot' make: *** [bzImage] Error 2
Which RPM is as86 located in? There is a "/usr/bin/as" assembler compiler. I tried making /usr/bin/as86 a link to it and got the following error message:
nm vmlinux | grep -v '\(compiled\)\|\(\.o$\)\|\( [aU] \)\|\(\.\.ng$\)\|\(LASH[RL]DI\)' | sort > System.map make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2_2_5/arch/i386/boot' gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2_2_5/include -E -D__BIG_KERNEL__ -traditional -DSVGA_MODE=NORMAL_VGA bootsect.S -o bbootsect.s as86 -0 -a -o bbootsect.o bbootsect.s as86: unrecognized option `-0' make[1]: *** [bbootsect.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2_2_5/arch/i386/boot' make: *** [bzImage] Error 2
Any suggestions? I'm new to Red Hat linux but not to unix. I've attached the results of scripts/ver_linux below.
