The following is what comes up on my box when I do a 'make bzImage' or 'make zImage'. I have tried reinstalling with Redhat 5.2 again, and I have tried it installing Redhat 5.1.
The error is at the bottom of this code.
make -C kernel make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/kernel' make all_targets make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/kernel' gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c signal.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -c ksyms.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -fno-omit-frame-pointer -c -o sched.o sched.c gcc -D__KERNEL__ -I/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/include -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -fno-strength-reduce -m486 -malign-loops=2 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-functions=2 -DCPU=586 -c -o dma.o dma.c gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 11 make[2]: *** [dma.o] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/kernel' make[1]: *** [first_rule] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.2.6/kernel' make: *** [_dir_kernel] Error 2 cpp: output pipe has been closed
Where it says 'make[2]: *** [dma.o] Error 1' the name (this one is dma.o) changes each time it try.
I would thank any help you can give me.
Oh, I am running Redhat Linux 5.2 (I tried it with 5.1) on a K6 233, 64M RAM. I am trying to put on the kernel of 2.2.6, but I have also tried 2.2.1. I am trying to put the new kernel on for the parallel support, and probing, so I can get my external HP CD-Writer Plus (7200 Series) ( CD-RW) working.
Thanks.
