I get this too sometimes (I can see the eepro100 card is sending, but not receiving on another machine).

ifconfig eth0 down ; ifconfig eth0 up .... ; route add ... makes the card functional for me when it does this.

both compiled with gcc 2.7.2.3, good :)

What you might want to try is compile the kernel without Multicasting, it seems to have helped with my computer. (this seems to be a common problem with the eepro100's)
