Hello,
what does the following message means: Feb 2 18:50:44 zeus kernel: NFS: server stokes, readdir reply truncated Feb 2 18:50:44 zeus kernel: NFS: nr=39, slots=1, len=27
It appends when amd try to mount an nfs filesystem from an HP fileserver (stokes) which export 2 filesystem: / and /home
amd is configured such that when I access /net/HOST_NAME/xxxx HOST_NAME:/ is mounted on /amd/HOST_NAME when xxxx is inside the / filesystem on HOST_NAME, for example if I try to acces /net/HOST_NAME/home where /home is a separate filesystem from /on HOST_NAME HOST_NAME:/home is mounted on /amd/HOST_NAME/home (HOST_NAME:/ is already mounted on /amd/HOST_NAME)
Now an example:
]]]] zeus:/# /etc/init.d/amd start ]]]] Starting automounter: amd. ]]]] zeus:/# cd /net/stokes ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes# ls ]]]] SD_CDROM etc lost+found rst_mi tbr tmp_mnt var ]]]] TT_DB export net sbin tftpboot ttar ]]]] bin home opt st_mi tftpboot.tar.Z users ]]]] dev lib root stand tmp usr ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes#
At this time everything is OK
now let's go to home:
]]]] zeus:/net/stokes# cd home ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home# ls ]]]] TT_DB dominiq grappin jeung maday rina tftpdir ]]]] benard firdaous guermond jmc petiton rodo turinici ]]]] binisti gallot guignon lacaze pierre rohmer yiannop ]]]] butin gestion_hpp idl lecalvez pironnea roignant ]]]] coquel_mail.gz ginsburg jeanfaiv lost+found rapetti store ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home# cd guignon ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home/guignon# ls ]]]] 0 Mail Xrootenv.0 public-html tex venus ]]]] Desktop PSP2_21 debian stage tmp xem-mail ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home/guignon#
the problem is that the directory guignon contain more files than listed and I have the error message in syslog:
Feb 2 19:16:44 zeus kernel: NFS: server stokes, readdir reply truncated Feb 2 19:16:44 zeus kernel: NFS: nr=39, slots=1, len=27
some files don't appear but they are accessible:
]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home/guignon# less asci.tex
is OK but asci.tex does not appear in the file list
no more strange:
]]]] zeus:/# /etc/init.d/amd stop ]]]] Stopping automounter: amd. ]]]] zeus:/# cat /etc/mtab ]]]] /dev/sda1 / ext2 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 0 ]]]] proc /proc proc rw 0 0 ]]]] /dev/sda2 /home ext2 rw 0 0 ]]]] stokes:/ /amd/stokes nfs rw 0 0 ]]]] stokes:/home /amd/stokes/home nfs rw 0 0 ]]]] zeus:/# umount stokes:/home ]]]] zeus:/# umount stokes:/ ]]]] zeus:/# mount stokes:/ /amd/stokes ]]]] zeus:/# mount stokes:/home /amd/stokes/home ]]]] zeus:/# cd /amd/stokes/home/guignon ]]]] zeus:/amd/stokes/home/guignon# ls ]]]] 0 asci.ps intel_blas_lib pp160-176.ps tmp.txt ]]]] ATLAS asci.tex kmailerr.log public-html tmp.txt~ ]]]] Desktop asci2.ps matrix_market scilab.hist toto.log ]]]] Mail autosaves metis sosonkina.ps venus ]]]] NoName.xmgr cestac missfont.log stage wall ]]]] PSP2_21 cfengine.conf msg-log test.ps xem-mail ]]]] SPARSKIT2 core nautile.pdf test1.ps xemacs.mesg ]]]] Xrootenv.0 cron news test2.ps xmpi.ps ]]]] aero-6.tex dead.letter nsmail tex ]]]] asci.dvi debian p1.jpeg these ]]]] asci.log document_1998_39.ps p2.jpeg tmp ]]]] zeus:/amd/stokes/home/guignon#
here we see that static nfs mount work well no lets recycle these static nfs mounts by restarting amd:
]]]] zeus:/amd/stokes/home/guignon# /etc/init.d/amd start ]]]] Starting automounter: amd. ]]]] zeus:/amd/stokes/home/guignon# amq ]]]] / root "root" zeus:(pid1149) ]]]] /net toplvl /etc/amd.conf /net ]]]] zeus:/amd/stokes/home/guignon# cd /net/stokes/home ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home# amq ]]]] / root "root" zeus:(pid1149) ]]]] /net toplvl /etc/amd.conf /net ]]]] /net/stokes nfs stokes:/ /amd/stokes ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home# cat /etc/mtab ]]]] /dev/sda1 / ext2 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 0 ]]]] proc /proc proc rw 0 0 ]]]] /dev/sda2 /home ext2 rw 0 0 ]]]] stokes:/ /amd/stokes nfs rw,addr=192.134.150.11 0 0 ]]]] stokes:/home /amd/stokes/home nfs rw,addr=192.134.150.11 0 0 ]]]] zeus:(pid1149) /net auto intr,rw,port=1023,timeo=8,retrans=110,indirect,map=/et/amd.conf 0 0 ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home# cd guignon ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home/guignon# ls ]]]] 0 asci.ps intel_blas_lib pp160-176.ps tmp.txt ]]]] ATLAS asci.tex kmailerr.log public-html tmp.txt~ ]]]] Desktop asci2.ps matrix_market scilab.hist toto.log ]]]] Mail autosaves metis sosonkina.ps venus ]]]] NoName.xmgr cestac missfont.log stage wall ]]]] PSP2_21 cfengine.conf msg-log test.ps xem-mail ]]]] SPARSKIT2 core nautile.pdf test1.ps xemacs.mesg ]]]] Xrootenv.0 cron news test2.ps xmpi.ps ]]]] aero-6.tex dead.letter nsmail tex ]]]] asci.dvi debian p1.jpeg these ]]]] asci.log document_1998_39.ps p2.jpeg tmp ]]]] zeus:/net/stokes/home/guignon#
now all work well an I have no error message in syslog
If anyone have an idea
Thanks Guignon Thomas
