[1.] One line summary of the problem: unaccessible files (SMP) with 2.3.35pre6
[2.] Full description of the problem/report: In an attempt to compile Mozilla, after running ./configure several files were left in a state, where they could not be accessed nor removed.
When trying to do an ls, I just get the message 'ls: filename: Input/output error' for every file.
This happens on an ext2 filesystem.
[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel): kernel, filesystem, ext2
[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version): Linux version 2.3.35pre6 (xi@x) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)) #3 SMP Mon Dec 27 03:48:14 MET 1999
[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt) N/A
[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the problem (if possible) N/A
[7.] Environment [7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here) Linux x 2.3.35pre6 #3 SMP Mon Dec 27 03:48:14 MET 1999 i686 unknown Kernel modules 2.1.121 Gnu C egcs-2.91.66 Binutils 2.9.1.0.24 Linux C Library 2.1.2 Dynamic linker ldd (GNU libc) 2.1.2 Procps 2.0.4 Mount 2.9u Net-tools 1.53 Console-tools 1999.03.02 Sh-utils 2.0 Modules Loaded ne 8390 nls_iso8859-1 nls_cp437 vfat fat sb uart401 sound soundcore

[7.4.] SCSI information (from /proc/scsi/scsi) N/A
[7.5.] Other information that might be relevant to the problem (please look in /proc and include all information that you think to be relevant): [X.] Other notes, patches, fixes, workarounds: The system is running on an Abit BP6 motherboard and is not overclocked. I've had no problems with it on 2.2.x kernels.
If there is anything I could do to examine this further please say so.
